Guyana Mining and Quarry Industry

Guyana maintains riches in gold, stone, bauxite, loam, sand, laterite, and diamonds, among other natural resources. The country’s vast mineral and quarry sector, which includes oil and gas, is a crucial contributor to the country’s economy. The country’s Quarrying Code of Practice offers guidance and encourages observation of the best industry practices for environmental safety purposes.

About 36 percent of the country (29,563 square miles) comprises a mineralized crust. Large, medium, and small-scale quarry activities occur within structurally trending NW-SE terrain. Most of the country's gold and diamond mining activities happen in the Roraima Formation, which covers roughly 12 percent of Guyana (10,257 square miles).

The quarried materials help the country develop and maintain its infrastructure. The country's thriving construction industry (powered by the country’s quarry resources and activity) has led to the birth of a $10 million Earth Resources management quarry in Batavia by EKAA HRIM Earth Resource Management Inc. The US investor plans to invest $10 million in the project’s second phase.
